Easy for everyone to hold and open. Development of universal bottles.

Original shape design with universal design theme.

In response to the client’s request for a bottle that is easy to hold and within the standards of a vending machine, we created an original bottle shape that is easy to hold and open for everyone, from the elderly to children.

Universal design for both ease of use and beauty.

When the concept of universal design began to spread, there was still nothing suitable for the beverage packaging sector, where production costs are strictly regulated. We sought a shape that was easy to hold regardless of the size of the hand, that would not slip off even if the hand had a weak grip, and that was easy to twist (easy to open the cap). We also sought a visually pleasing shape that would meet the requirements of productivity, portability and suitability for vending machines.

Dozens of model validations for ease of holding.

Paper and clay models of various diameters, sizes, number of polygonal sides and various patterns were created and verified for ease of holding by actually holding them in the hand. On top of this, four to five acrylic mock-ups were created to thoroughly verify the actual appearance and ease of holding.

CAD drawing technology allows for good-looking and new expressions. It also enables volume calculations and designs based on manufacturing suitability. The image can be communicated to the manufacturer.

Bringing the world of images to real life: 3D modelling technology

The shape design beautifully expresses the freshness of the Soukenbicha brand by reflecting the shimmering multifaceted surfaces composed on the bottle when light hits it. The world of sketches and other imagery was put into actual form using accurate 3D modelling technology. This technique also facilitates structural studies and negotiations for communication to the production department.
